In Which He Dared to “Think Different” and Changed the World

“A writer who is a real writer is a rebel who never stops.” – William Saroyan

It’s been awhile since I last posted anything on my blog. I wish I could say my absence is due to all the work I’ve accomplished on my manuscript. But in truth, it’s kind of due to my worries, to my fear that maybe I just don’t have it in me to be a real writer. Maybe I’m a poseur, a failure, a downright wannabe who can’t even look in the mirror to face myself. I mean, who do I think I am, writing my heart away with the dream of getting my books published, when some of the most talented receive rejection upon rejection upon rejection?

It’s not that I’m afraid of rejection. I’ve amassed plenty in my lifetime and still live.

It’s more I wonder whether I’m passionate enough about writing. Do I have what it takes to dedicate countless hours to writing when there are family, home and work demands, when I have a life to live? Do I love writing — the pure act of taking a spark of an idea and creating life with words — enough to withstand the isolation, the hard work, the sacrifices, the whispers from naysayers?

And by the act of serendipity (Thank you, Mary Shapiro), I find this video featuring the legendary Steve Jobs on success:

And this gives me hope.

I LOVE writing and color me happy, I’ve got stories piling up that need to be told, of rebels who want to make a difference, of teens who want to be heard.

Let’s take all the wisdom we can from one of the greatest rebels and innovators of our time. RIP Steve Jobs. You dared to “think different” and changed the world. Thank you. You will be missed.

Here’s to the crazy ones…

Be inspired. You CAN overcome your obstacles. You CAN make things happen. You CAN write your story. All it takes is the courage to dare to “think different.” No need to write to the latest trend. No need to worry about what everyone else is doing. Focus on yourself and write the story YOU love. Your imagination has the power to take people on incredible journeys. Believe this. Steve Jobs did.

“Stay hungry.” – Steve Jobs

I DARE YOU. Now, go and write.

Consider yourself warned: I write books about rebels. I'm also a postergirlz for readergirlz, a literary advisory group for teens. Who knew going back to the teenage years would be so rewarding?
